I have become somewhat of a documentary addict and love to be educated on a topic or an event, while snuggling up under the blanket with my hot chocolate!
Since sharing is caring; here are some of the newest documentaries worth tuning in on!
Before the flood
I love Leonardo DiCaprio’s effort to raise awareness on climate change. In this movie we get to see how climate change affects the environment and what we can do to prevent the demise of endangered species, ecosystems and communities across our planet. We follow DiCaprio around the globe, where he talks to different scientists, communities and world leaders, with one common goal: wake us up and make us realize that we need to act, before it’s too late.
The title of this documentary refers to the 13th amendment to the constitution: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” In this film, the film makers examine why the US has produced the highest rate of incarceration in the world, with the majority of those imprisoned being African American. It’s an in-depth look at the prison system and reveals the nation’s history of racial inequality.
The ivory game
Elephants are among the world’s most majestic creatures, but the lucrative ivory trade will extinguish these beautiful animals if it doesn’t stop. Wildlife activists and investigators put their lives on the line to battle the illegal African ivory trade, in this suspenseful documentary.
This documentary is from 2015, but a must see! It’s such a heartbreaking movie about the life of the British singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse. Her love for music, her love for life and her tragic ending, dying from alcohol poisoning at the age of only 27. And the film of course features her amazing music. Listen, watch and love!
